# Who gets alerted when my code is scanned?

Up to three emergency contacts; separate from clinician field.

When someone scans your code or opens your page from its web address, WearableDocs reaches the emergency contacts you named: by text, call, or both, however you chose for each.

You can add up to **three** contacts. One is enough; add more only if you want more than one person reached.

## Why contacts matter

A perfect directive that reaches no one is not enough. A contact who picks up the phone turns a scan into a conversation while it still matters.

## Not the same as a clinician on the page

On [Emergency contacts](https://app.wearabledocs.com/contacts) you may also name a clinician or agent with a phone number for the public page. That person is **not** automatically texted as an emergency contact unless you also add them as a contact and they opt in.
