## What you can refuse

Each refusal is part of a document you sign, in the form your state recognizes. You choose which ones, and exactly how far each one goes.

### Organ and tissue donation

Removing your name from the organ donor registry withdraws your yes. It does not record your no, and that is the difference that matters.

- Your organs, eyes and tissue, and your whole body
- Every purpose: transplant, therapy, research and education
- No family member, agent or hospital administrator can donate for you
- Replaces an earlier registry entry or driver’s license designation

### Vaccines

Refuse vaccines and immunizations, and decide for yourself what happens after an exposure.

- All vaccines, including those given under a standing order or facility protocol
- Shots after an exposure, such as tetanus, rabies or hepatitis B: refuse them, accept them, or say which in your own words

### Blood

Refuse donor blood, and choose separately about blood fractions and your own blood.

- Whole blood, red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma, from any donor
- Blood fractions such as albumin, immunoglobulins and clotting factors: refuse or accept
- Your own blood returned during or after surgery: refuse, accept, or accept only in a continuous circuit
- Every other treatment still asked for, including transfer to a bloodless medicine program

### Brain apnea test

Refuse the apnea test, the breathing test used in an evaluation for brain death.

- For any purpose, including determining death by neurologic criteria
- No provider, health care agent, surrogate or anyone acting for you can consent to it

### Any refusal you already have

Already signed a refusal somewhere else, like a religious directive or a form from your lawyer? Keep it in the same secure record, behind the same code, and sealed every time it is opened.

## What your documents say

In the words of the documents you sign.

### No one can consent for you

“No other person may consent on my behalf to anything I have refused above.”

### It speaks when you can’t

“Silence from me is not consent, and a change in my medical condition is not a change of mind.”

### Refusing is not refusing care

“Refusing these products is not a refusal of care.”

## Put your refusal where it will be seen

Your record, your personal page, and the code that lets others find it.
