The mark on your license
How to remove organ donor from your driver's license
Taking the donor designation off your driver's license does not take your name off the organ donor registry. They are separate records. You have to do both, and neither one records a no.
Taking the mark off
Clears the designation from the card. It does not reach the registry.
One of two steps
A signed refusal
Records a clear no, and bars other people from authorizing a gift for you.
No recorded
The difference that matters
Your license, the registry, and a refusal
Two of these are lists you take something off. The third is the one that says no.
The license
The donor mark is a designation on the card. Taking it off does not reach the registry, which keeps its own record.
A refusal
Records your decision in writing, in the form your state recognizes, so that it can be found when it is needed.
The side-by-side comparison
The card is not the registry
