How do I use my vault?

Keep IDs, insurance, deeds and wills, encrypted, and share them by link.

Your vault keeps any document you already have: IDs and passports, insurance cards, deeds and titles, wills, medical records, financial papers. It comes with your plan, and each record has 1 GB.

Open it from Vault in the menu, or go to Vault.

Adding a file

Choose Add a file. Then either:

  • Choose a file: a PDF, JPEG, PNG or HEIC file, up to 10 MB. On a computer you can also drag a file onto that tile.
  • Scan with your camera: each page is straightened on your phone, and the pages are saved together as one PDF.

Give it a name if you like, pick a folder (ID, Insurance, Legal, Medical, Financial or Other), and choose Upload to my vault.

Who can see it

Only you. Every file is encrypted before it is stored. No one else sees a vault file unless you share it or put it on your page.

Your files

Your files are listed newest first. Choose a folder at the top to see only that folder. On your page and Shared show which files other people can open. Open downloads a file straight from the list.

Choose a file's name to open its own page, where you share it, put it on your page, rename it or delete it.

Sharing a file

On the file's page, under Share, choose Share for a day, for a week or for a month. That one tap makes the link and copies it, ready to paste into a message. The link is shown only once, for your security.

For something sensitive, turn on Require a passcode before you tap. You get a six-digit code along with the link, shown once. Send the code separately, by text or a call. The person opening the link has to enter it, and after five wrong codes the link locks for good; make a new one if that happens.

Turn on Email me when it is opened to hear by email when someone opens the link, at most once an hour for each link. If a link locks after wrong passcodes, you are emailed whether or not you turned this on.

Anyone with the link (and the code, if it has one) can open that one file until it runs out. To stop it sooner, choose Stop. Each time a link is opened, and each time a wrong passcode is entered, it is added to Who opened your record with the file's name and the day the link was made. Your emergency contacts are not alerted.

Putting a file on your page

On the file's page, turn on Show on my page. The file appears near the bottom of your page, under Other documents, as a button with the name you gave it. Anyone who scans your code can open it. Turn the switch off to take it off.

Renaming, moving and deleting

Under Details, change the name or folder and choose Save. Under Delete, choose Delete this file and confirm. The file and its links are gone for good.
